WARNING: If you are a criminal, or a criminal-in-training, then don't read or act upon this post. I'm not acting innocent, I'm simply giving you a warning or a sign to not follow the bad path. Even if you feel successful for a moment, remember that things are always going to turn on you. Anyways, on with the article!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smIdInCQ-kU A video explaining the most common type of lock and how it works.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sftkP4CjjZs A video explaining how a combination lock (like the one at school) works.
The videos above will give you an understanding of how a lock works and they both have subtitles.
Obviously I can't tell you all the ways you can pick all the locks in the world. If requested, I might create multiple posts. But for now, I'll just list a couple of ways you can pick some of the most common locks with hairpins, bobby pins or paperclips.
Knob Lock

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyZnmDcXeso This YouTube video is really useful and according to the comments, saved quite a few people.
You can also use a card and swipe it through the crack between door and door knob.
Notes: the video has subtitles, you can click on the three dots under the video, click "open transcript" and just read the transcript along with the video if you need to.
2. Locker locks

Okay, so this one is quite common in my school and there's a really cool video explaining how to open it. I tried doing it and after like, 3 tries, it worked (I used it on my own lock, by the way. I'm no thief). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZrfXjIJ2Ew
Notes: the video has subtitles, you can click on the three dots under the video, click "open transcript" and just read the transcript along with the video if you need to.
3. The other locker lock

This type of lock is really common too. And it's really simple. The trick into opening these combination locks is to hold down the shackles. It's not always the "click" sound. This is a really cool and helpful video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uyc5qNjRF1o
Notes: No one is speaking in this one, but there are instructions on the screen.
4. Pin Tumbler locks

I bet all of you have seen these locks, haven't you? This is probably the most common lock I've ever seen (cuz I see it everywhere). But, just like the other locks, this is really easy to open as well. The one thing, you have to look out for is the feel of it. Can you feel the pins lifting? You have to direct most of your concentration, after the paper clips or bobby pins are set, on the lock itself. You have to feel the pins lifting. This video explains everything and also advices on what to do if you've been trying for a few minutes and the pins feel stiff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lQJlWmR1Ko
Notes: the video has subtitles, you can click on the three dots under the video, click "open transcript" and just read the transcript along with the video if you need to.
Conclusion: the point of this post is so that you can do something when you're really bored or you're some place boring or if you're at school. If you're really bored in a class, but you still want to learn something useful, then just grab a lock and practice this. By the end of the class, you'll have mastered it. Although, you might not be able to pick open lock no. 3 because of the groans of students and the lecturing from the teacher. Good luck and have fun!
P.S: Read the comments under the videos. They're hilarious. Especially the on the last video.
