As you might or might not know, I'm a muslim. And this is something my dad told me this and I thought it would be good if you knew as well: The reason why so many people have depression is because they deny the good things they get. You know Surah Rahman? The repeated ayah "And which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?" There are many easy ways which Shaitan can use to move you away from the right path. One of the ways is for you to deny the favors which Allah (swt) has bestowed upon you. Some people deny the favors out of vanity. Others deny them because of low self-esteem. They believe that they don't have it or they don't deserve it. This inevitably leads to depression and some other mental illnesses. It's important to remember that Allah (swt) would never abandon you. Ever. Even if you've done the biggest of sins or the smallest of sins. Because if you repent and ask for forgiveness with niyaah (intention), you *will* be forgived. As long as your intentions show that you are sorry and will try to mever repeat the sin, He will forgive you. No matter what. So don't deny the favors which Allah (swt) has bestowed upon you. The more thankful you are, the more you will get.
